LA sheriff investigating 10-year-old’s ‘suspicious’ death
LANCASTER, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials are investigating the suspicious death of a 10-year-old boy.
Investigators say seven other children were removed from the home in Lancaster after the boy died Thursday.
Emergency crews were called Wednesday afternoon and found the 10-year-old seriously injured after a fall. Officials said he wasn’t breathing and he died the next morning.
Sheriff’s homicide investigators say the boy’s death is “suspicious.” An autopsy is pending.
The boy’s aunt, Maria Barron, tells KCBS-TV she called county child welfare officials three years ago and believed the boy was being abused by his mother and her boyfriend.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Nicole Nishida tells the Los Angeles Times authorities had contact with the family “prior to this incident,” but wouldn’t elaborate.
