Longtime prosecutor takes over Weinstein case in NYC

NEW YORK (AP) — A longtime Manhattan prosecutor who led the sex assault probe against former International Monetary Fund leader Dominique Strauss-Khan has now taken over the rape investigation of Harvey Weinstein, according to two people familiar with the case.

Joan Illuzzi-Orbon has been working on the Weinstein investigation since about the beginning of the month.

The district attorney’s office is looking into allegations by at least two women. Weinstein is also under criminal investigation in Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and London.

He has not been charged criminally and denies any non-consensual sex.

In 2011, the DA declined to prosecute Strauss-Khan after a hotel maid accused him of sexual assault.

The two people who had knowledge of the Weinstein case were not authorized to speak publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
