Los Angeles police hold gun buyback event

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles police are holding a gun buyback event as part of a program to get weapons off the streets of the nation’s second-largest city.

Citizens may anonymously surrender weapons at two locations Saturday.

In return they may qualify for a $100 gift card for handguns, shotguns and rifles, and a $200 card for guns classified by California as assault weapons.

Police say that anyone intending to surrender a weapon should have the gun in a locked container or in their vehicle’s trunk.
