Man arrested in fatal northern California crash
PESCADERO, Calif. (AP) — A suspected drunken driver has been arrested after authorities say he crashed into another car on Highway 1 in northern California, killing one man and critically injuring a woman.
The California Highway Patrol tells the San Francisco Chronicle that 21-year-old Paulino Najera was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter after the Saturday night crash in Pescadero, about 30 miles west of San Jose on the coast.
Officer Art Montiel says Najera crashed into another car, killing a male passenger. The woman driving the car had major injuries and was airlifted to a hospital, as was Najera.
Montiel says Najera is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and also faces charges of felony DUI.
It’s unclear whether Najera has an attorney.
