Man charged with shooting attack at Southern California mall

TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California gang member has been charged with a shooting that wounded a man inside one of the nation’s largest malls.

Prosecutors on Tuesday say 22-year-old Jose Manuel Salazar of Bellflower is charged with attempted murder and other crimes. He’s accused of shooting a man on June 3 inside the Del Amo Fashion Center in Torrance. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.

The shooting south of Los Angeles sent customers and employees running from the mall. Dozens of police swarmed the scene. They searched hundreds of stores but didn’t find the gunman.

The victim was treated at a hospital.

Authorities say Salazar was arrested Saturday in Redondo Beach after police stopped him for a traffic violation and later identified him as a suspect in the mall attack.
