Man convicted of 2010 kidnap-killing of California teenager
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California jury has convicted a man of kidnapping and killing a 17-year-old girl as she walked to a friend’s house in 2010.
Forty-two-year-old Jesse Torres of Long Beach was found guilty Wednesday of first-degree murder with kidnapping for the death of Norma Lopez in Riverside County.
The jury will now consider whether to recommend death or life in prison without possibility of parole.
Prosecutors say Torrez kidnapped the teenager as she walked from summer school to a friend’s house in Moreno Valley.
Her body was found five days later in an olive grove.
Authorities say DNA linked him to the killing.
