Man dies after being handcuffed by San Diego police

SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Diego police say a man who may have been on drugs has died after being handcuffed.

KGTV-TV says officers were called to a home Tuesday after a man broke down a fence and walked into a home through an open back door.

Police say a resident who heard a commotion came downstairs and confronted the man, punching him in the face and knocking him out.

But police say the man then woke and ran out of the house.

When officers arrived, they say the man resisted and they used physical force to handcuff him.

Paramedics were called but after they arrived, the man became unresponsive and died at a hospital.

Other details, including the man’s name, haven’t been released.

The cause of his death is under investigation.
