Man gets life for California carjacking, robbery spree

SAN DIEGO (AP) — A man who carjacked a 79-year-old woman and terrorized a baseball coach and teenage player at gunpoint during a Southern California crime spree will spend the rest of his life in prison.

The San Diego Union-Tribune says Ira Stringer was sentenced Friday to life without chance of parole plus 107 years. The judge called Stringer “a one-man wrecking crew and a danger to society.”

In 2015, Stringer kidnapped the baseball coach and a 16-year-old player in San Diego, holding a gun to the coach’s head while forcing him to drive for 45 minutes. The coach finally jumped Stringer and the car crashed.

Stringer then carjacked the elderly woman in Ramona, robbed two gas stations in San Diego and Orange counties and finally was arrested by a SWAT team in Riverside.
