Man indicted in crash that killed 3 children

OXON HILL, Md. (AP) — A Maryland man is facing vehicular manslaughter charges after three young children were killed and their parents critically injured in a crash last month.

Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy announced the indictment Thursday of 27-year-old Thomas Hawks of White Plains. Hawks is charged with three counts of vehicular manslaughter as a result of gross negligence, two counts of causing life threatening injuries by motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and other offenses.

Prosecutors allege Hawks was heavily intoxicated and speeding on Dec. 30 when he rear-ended a Falls Church, Virginia, family’s car at a red light. Officials say 5-year-old twins Alexander and Rosalie Mejia and their 1-year-old brother, Isaac, were killed instantly and their parents were injured.

Hawks couldn’t be reached for comment.
