Man pleads guilty to making threatening call to Rep. Waters

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles man who threatened to kill Rep. Maxine Waters in a profanity-laced phone call has pleaded guilty to threatening a U.S. official.

Anthony Lloyd entered the plea Monday before a federal judge. He faces up to 10 years in prison but is expected to receive a lighter sentence.

Lloyd left a voicemail with Waters’ office in Washington D.C. last October. It used the words “dead” and “kill” four times and included profanity and a racial slur against Waters, who’s black.

Lloyd says he became upset with Waters, a Los Angeles Democrat, after listening to a talk radio show attacking her for criticizing President Donald Trump.

The Los Angeles Times says Lloyd apologized through his lawyer and said he never intended to harm the congresswoman.
