New accuser says Los Angeles deputy assaulted her in jail
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Another former Los Angeles County jail inmate has alleged she was sexually assaulted by a sheriff’s deputy.
The Los Angeles Times reported that the woman filed a lawsuit Friday alleging that deputy Giancarlo Scotti assaulted on three separate occasions while she served a sixth month sentence for drunken driving last year.
The Associated Press doesn’t generally identify victims of sexual abuse.
Prosecutors charged Scotti earlier this year with six felony counts of sexual activity with a detainee. He’s accused of assaulting six other female inmates at the Century Regional Detention Facility between March and September 2017.
Scotti’s attorney Anthony Falangetti didn’t respond to requests for comment.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Nicole Nishida said Scotti has been placed on leave without pay.
