North Dakota couple killed by fallen tree in California
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Relatives say a North Dakota couple vacationing in San Diego, California died when a tree fell on their rental house.
Authorities say a 75-foot-tall pine tree crashed into the house in the Point Loma Heights neighborhood Monday about 6 a.m. during gusty winds.
The couple, Troy and Jessica Nelson, ran a promotional products and apparel company, Trojan Promotions, in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Troy Nelson’s sister, Tammy Reynolds, says the two were staying at the rental house for the weekend after attending an industry expo last week. She says they were scheduled to leave the day they were killed.
Jessica Nelson’s brother, Ryan Langerud, was also in the house and survived. Reynolds says Langerud told her it sounded like an airplane had crashed into the house.
