Orange County jail inmate death investigated
SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — Southern California authorities are investigating the death of a robbery suspect who was being booked into jail.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department says the 37-year-old man became uncooperative and then became unconscious as deputies worked to control him on Tuesday at a county jail facility in Santa Ana.
A department statement says the man went into cardiac arrest and deputies, jail medical staff and firefighters rendered aid before the man was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
The man had been arrested by the Tustin Police Department late Monday evening. His name has not been released.
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office is the lead investigative agency, per protocol.
