Palestinians: 14-year-old shot dead at Gaza fence protest
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Gaza’s Health Ministry says a 14-year-old Palestinian has been killed by Israeli gunfire during a border protest.
Hassan Shalabi was shot in the chest Friday in the Gaza Strip, the ministry said, adding that 10 others were wounded.
The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the incident.
Thousands of Palestinians demonstrated at five locations along the Gaza-Israel perimeter fence in what has become a weekly event for nearly a year.
About 190 Palestinians and an Israeli soldier have been killed since the marches began last March.
Gaza’s Hamas rulers launched the campaign against the Israeli-Egyptian blockade imposed on the territory since 2007.
Egypt has since eased Palestinian movement through its border and Israel allowed Qatar to send financial aid to Gaza, but the militant group says this is insufficient.
