Police break up large fight at Utah psychiatric youth center

ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — Police say a fight broke out at a Utah youth psychiatric center that took officers from several police agencies about an hour to bring under control.

Authorities say there were injuries from the melee involving about 20 people Sunday night at the Red Rock Canyon School residential treatment center in the small southwestern Utah city of St. George.

St. George Police Officer Tiffany Atkin said Monday that she could not immediately provide details on how many people were hurt or the nature of their injuries.

Police are investigating what prompted the fight at the center for youths between ages 12 and 18 needing help beyond outpatient clinics.

The school did not immediately return a telephone message seeking comment.
