Police: Florida high school on lockdown, suspicious incident

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) — Police say a Florida high school has been placed on a lockdown after reports of a possible suspicious incident.

Coral Springs Police didn’t elaborate on Friday’s report but they say officers are investigating, and called the lockdown a “precautionary” measure.

The lockdown comes amid lingering U.S. jitters following the latest deadly school shooting across the country in Santa Clarita, California. Two students were killed and others were wounded Thursday at the California high school.

Also Thursday, students rallied at Florida’s state capital, Tallahassee, to demand lawmakers take action on gun control. Those taking part included at least one survivor of a Parkland, Florida, high school shooting that killed 17 people in February 2018. Coral Springs Police were among the first agencies to respond at Parkland.

Coral Springs is northwest of Fort Lauderdale and the high school has about 2,900 students.
