Police recover art stolen from California homes during 1990s

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Police have recovered a trove of art stolen from Los Angeles-area homes in the 1990s and investigators are hoping to return the pieces to their rightful owners.

KCBS-TV reports police said Wednesday that a tip from an auction house led detectives to serve search warrants at locations in Los Angeles and Orange counties. A hundred items including works by Pablo Picasso and Joan Miro were found. The recovered art includes mostly paintings but also some sculptures, clocks, furniture and antique guns.

No new arrests have been made in the case. Two people were arrested shortly after the rash of burglaries.

Police say some of the paintings were not stored properly and suffered damage over the years.

Investigators are working with art experts to identify all the pieces and the artists who created them.
