Police: Southern California man sought in chain saw attack

WHITTIER, Calif. (AP) — Southern California authorities are looking for a man believed to have attacked his wife with a chain saw.

The Whittier Police Department says officers responded Wednesday afternoon to a domestic violence call and found the woman suffering from traumatic injuries believed to have been inflicted by a chain saw.

She was taken to a hospital, but her current condition has not been released.

Police say her husband, 32-year-old Alejandro Alvarez, fled in the family vehicle and crashed into another car, then stole an SUV whose owner had left it running. That vehicle is identified as a 2004 Mercury Mountaineer with blue and tan coloring. Its license plate reads 8ABD233.

A police statement says although the chain saw has been recovered, the suspect is considered armed and dangerous.
