Sacramento police dog stabbed during arrest in Carmichael
SACROMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Sacramento authorities say a police dog is recovering after being stabbed in the head multiple times while trying to apprehend a suspect in Carmichael.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department says Jedi, a 3-year-old German Shepherd, underwent surgery and is expected to recover from the Saturday attack.
The Sacramento Bee reports officers were searching for a 41-year-old suspect after receiving a tip from a state parole officer about a domestic violence incident.
The department said in a statement that the suspect, a convicted sex offender, led officers on a slow-speed pursuit before they were able to arrest him.
The department says the man was taken to a hospital with dog bite injuries.
He was later transported to Sacramento County Jail where he is being held without bail for violating his parole.
