San Francisco hang glider dies after crashing into ocean
PACIFICA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities in Northern California say a hang glider pilot died after crashing into the ocean near Pacifica.
KGO-TV reports the 45-year-old San Francisco man was out with friends when his hang glider went off course Sunday.
San Mateo County sheriff’s investigator Rosemerry Blankswade says the group took off from Fort Funston and was in route to Muscle Rock when the crash happened about five miles from their destination.
A group of hikers called 911 after seeing the hang glider crash into the Pacific Ocean.
Blankswade says that by the time emergency crews go to him, they found that he was already dead and most likely had drowned.
Authorities confirmed the man was found unclipped from the equipment and it is unknown if he tried to swim moments before drowning.
