Shark attack victim hopes to be released from hospital soon

BOSTON (AP) — The man bitten by a shark off Cape Cod in Massachusetts is hoping to be released soon from the Boston hospital where he’s been recovering this past month.

William Lytton tells the Boston Globe he has another surgery before he can be sent home to Scarsdale, New York, but his arm cast has been removed and he can remove his leg cast from time to time.

He hopes to be released is at the end of the month from Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.

The 61-year-old neurologist was attacked Aug. 15 while swimming off a beach in Truro.

Lytton suffered deep lacerations on his leg and torso before he was able to break free by punching the shark in the gills.

The shark attack was the first in Massachusetts waters since 2012.
