Small plane crashes into Southern California building
TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) — A small plane has crashed into a building near a Los Angeles area airport.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the single-engine Cessna 177 crashed around noon Thursday about a mile east of the suburban Torrance airport.
TV news footage shows part of the plane on the roof of a shopping center and more wreckage in a parking lot below. Firefighters sprayed the area with foam. There are no open flames.
Gregor says it’s believed the pilot was the only person on board. The pilot’s condition isn’t immediately known.
The airport is about 20 miles (32 kilometers) south of downtown Los Angeles.
