Southern California man accused of shooting his dog to death

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Southern California man has been charged with shooting his German shepherd to death.

Christopher Ray Nard of Canyon Country pleaded not guilty Friday one count each of cruelty to an animal and discharge of a firearm with gross negligence.

Los Angeles County prosecutors allege the 57-year-old defendant shot the dog named Shiloh on July 9.

If convicted of the felonies, Nard faces up to 13 years in prison.
