Still smoking and still joking, Tommy Chong views life at 80

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Oh yeah, man, Tommy Chong says he always knew he’d see the day when marijuana legalization was sweeping the country.

Even if he had to live to age 80.

Chong, who reached that magic milestone on Thursday, plans to celebrate with some of his own brand of legal weed — Chong’s Choice.

It’s available in dispensaries in several of the 30 states where cannabis is now allowed in some form.

It wasn’t always that way.

Chong, who pioneered pothead humor 50 years ago with partner Cheech Marin, was sentenced to nine months in prison in 2003 for distributing hand-crafted, artisanal bongs.

After an adventurous life, the long-time cannabis advocate is back on the road again as part of Cheech and Chong.

And, yes, he says, the duo still toke up.
