Stray bullet kills Southern California woman in her home

LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Homicide investigators believe a Southern California fatally shot inside her home was struck by a stray bullet fired by someone outside.

Long Beach police say officers responding to a report of gunshots at 10:55 p.m. Saturday found 59-year-old Genoveva Rivera Robles with a gunshot wound to her torso.

She was taken to a hospital where she later died.

Detectives determined that someone fired a gun in a nearby roadway and more than one of the bullets struck the victim, but she was not the intended target.

Police Chief Robert Luna calls it a reckless display of criminal behavior.
