Torrance police shoot and kill knife-wielding man

TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) — Torrance police have shot and killed a man they say charged at them with a knife.

It happened shortly before 9 a.m. Friday near a gym on Hawthorne Boulevard.

Witnesses say the man was behaving erratically and threatening people with the knife before officers arrived.

Video shot by a bystander shows the shirtless man sitting in a parking lot, next to a backpack and a terrarium with a snake in it that he occasionally takes out and waves around.

Video then shows the man being struck by a non-lethal ammunition round, getting up and charging at officers.

Police opened fire and the man died at the scene. His name hasn’t been released.
