University urged to drop cases involving immigration protest

PHOENIX (AP) — Activists are putting pressure on the University of Arizona to drop cases against three students who protested the presence of Border Patrol agents on campus with videotaped chants of “murder patrol” and “KKK.”

The video that went viral last month showed the agents being shouted at until they left.

More than 200 students and immigration rights activists protested Wednesday at the Tucson school and planned on doing so again Thursday during a Board of Regents meeting.

They say the demonstrators had free-speech rights to protest the presence of two agents who had been asked by a criminal justice club to give a presentation about their jobs.

The union that represents Border Patrol agents says the students went too far and harassed the agents.
