Winter storms with heavy snow expected to hit Tahoe area

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A series of winter storms could bring heavy snow to the Tahoe area roadways.

The Tahoe Daily Tribune reports the National Weather Service in Reno issued a winter storm warning Friday for the Lake Tahoe region from late Friday to 10 p.m. Sunday 10 p.m.

Officials say the area could see up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) of snow above 7,000 feet (2,133 meters) this weekend.

The heaviest snow is expected Friday night and Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning. Lake level could see the heaviest snow falling west of California Route 89.

Strong winds could cause additional complications on mountain passes. Winds could be as strong as 45 mph. Gusts over Sierra ridges could exceed 95 mph.
