Impact of gig worker bill AB 5 on court interpreters
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – California’s Assembly Bill 5 is officially law.
It’s the new law that requires independent and contract workers to be considered employees of a company, rather than independent workers.
Nearly a million more independent workers in California are feeling the effects of AB 5, including interpreters who work at county courthouses.
Marybel Carino is a Chula Vista-based, federally and state-certified court interpreter. Marybel has provided interpretation services for both Lorena Gonzalez and Mayor Faulconer. She was in studio to tell us more about how the bill is affecting her business.
