Investigation opened in the death case of San Diego-based sailor
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – The Pentagon Friday formally announced the death of a San Diego-based sailor in the Gulf of Oman in the Middle East.
Petty Officer Dominique Cruz, 26, of Panama City, Fla., was found during search and rescue operations on Wednesday in the Gulf of Oman after being reported missing Tuesday, according to the Department of Defense.
Cruz was assigned as an operations specialists to the USS Halsey, which is homeported in San Diego.
The Halsey is currently deployed in the Middle East, conducting maritime security operations.
An investigation into what caused Cruz's death remains open.
