Investigation under way after 80-year-old man was killed by motorist
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – An investigation was under way Friday in Hillcrest, where a motorist fatally struck an 80-year-old man, police said.
The pedestrian was attempting to cross the road at the intersection of Richmond and Essex streets when he was struck around 3:50 p.m. Thursday, according to San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.
He sustained a fractured pelvis, broken bones and head trauma, and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, Heims said in a statement, adding that shortly after 8 p.m., investigators were notified that the man had died.
The driver who struck him, a 65-year-old man, remained at the scene.
