Journalist Bill Plante passes away at the age of 84

Journalist Bill Plante has passed away at the age of 84.

Bill Plante was a friend, a father, husband, and a fixture of television news for more than 50 years.

Plante was a veteran journalist, with an amazing career that spanned the globe. He worked as a correspondent and news anchor for CBS News, beginning in 1964.

He was also the father of our dear friend, and KUSI colleague, Dan Plante. Dan says his father was loved by everyone he touched, especially his family.

Bill Plante covered four presidents, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama.

He covered the Civil Rights movement and the Vietnam War.

He was one of the longest tenured White House TV Journalists in history, Bill Plante anchored the CBS Sunday Night News from 1988 to 1995, eventually retiring in 2016.

Bill Plante died at his home in Washington from respiratory failure, according to his wife, Robin Smith.

Bill Plante was 84-years-old.
