Judge: Man accused of stabbing landlord must stand trial

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A man accused of stabbing his landlord after an argument in their Sherman Heights apartment must stand trial on charges of premeditated attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, a judge ruled Thursday.

Brandon Gaubert, 32, faces seven years to life in prison if convicted, Deputy District Attorney David McNees said. The victim, Ernest Pierce, ran to a 20th Street market about noon last Aug. 17 after arguing with Gaubert about his behavior, the prosecutor said.

Gaubert allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed the victim in the neck and chest, sending Pierce to the hospital, Officer Dan Lasher said. Officers found the defendant near the market a short time later and arrested him.

Following a preliminary hearing today, Judge Laura Parsky ruled that enough evidence was presented for Gaubert to stand trial. A Superior Court arraignment was set for Jan. 5.
