Junior Lifeguards take the plunge off the Ocean Beach Pier

OCEAN BEACH (KUSI) — Hundreds of happy kids filled the Ocean Beach pier Monday, celebrating the final day of "Junior Lifeguards."

The final test is taking the plunge.

It may be the middle of summer, but it’s graduation day for these kids.

Instead of a stuffy ceremony, the Junior Lifeguards get to take the plunge off the OB Pier.

They call this the "Right of Passage," and sometimes it takes a little encouragement.

On Monday, it was a family affair. It’s the one day of the year where anyone can take the plunge for a donation to the Junior Lifeguards.
