Kearny Komets 21, Clairemont Chieftains 14

The Kearny Komets defeated the Clairemont Chieftains 21-14 on Friday night to become the 2015 Central League Champions.

It may have been the last game of the regular season, but it definitely did not disappoint.

Things started in the first when Clairemont’s Dylan Irwin caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Nick DiCarlo. Clairemont led 7-0.

It wasn’t long before Kearny answered.

On the next drive, Takoda "No Brakes" Brown kept it himself and took it all the way to the end zone to tie it up 7-7.

He didn’t stop there.

This time, Browne tossed the pitch-back to Treshaun Gray who was able to get into the end zone to pull the Komets ahead 14-7.

The Chieftains Dylan Suitts scored on a 3-yard touchdown run to tie it up again before the half.

It was 14-14 until the end of the third quarter.

Surprise, surprise! It was that man again. Didn’t I tell you to check out his highlights if you havent already?

Browne scored on a 3-yard quarterback keeper to give Kearny the edge 21-14.

Things got close at the end.

Clairemont was able to drive the ball to mid field and convert (by centimeters) on a huge 4 down conversion.

Unfortunately, Kearny intercepted the ball with a few minutes left to secure the win.

Browne finished the night with three touchdowns – two rushing and one passing.

PREVIEW: Can you believe it’s the last week of the regular season? Time sure does fly when you’re having fun.

This weeks Central League match up features the red-hot Kearny Komets (4-5) visiting the Clairemont Chieftains (4-5).

The Komets are coming into this game at the speed of light. They have won three games in a row and are currently 3-0 in league play.

Senior Takoda Browne is the Komets leader. If you haven’t heard his name yet, take note. He is on the Silver Pigskin Watch List for a good reason.

Just last Friday I was having a conversation with another Red Jacket about how fun it is to watch Browne play.

He is an all-around athlete. Currently he ranks fifth in the county in rushing yards with 1,343. In the last three games, Browne has scored 11 of Kearny’s touchdowns, bringing his total to 17 on the season.

Clairemont will have its hands full containing Browne. Since that is nearly impossible, they will need to keep up with him.

Unfortunately, the Chieftains offense has been inconsistent this season. The offensive line will need to play well against Kearny’s big defensive threats.

Clairemont relies on its run game. It has worked out pretty well for them because they have a good group of running backs with Dylan Suits, Dylan Irwin and Nick Hascall.

Can the Chieftains contain Browne and improve to 5-5? Or will Kearny win the Central League title? Tune into PPR this Friday at 10:30 p.m. on KUSI to find out.
