Kim McDougal on unattainable cost of San Diego childcare

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Kim McDougal is the Executive Director for YMCA’s Child Care Resource Center, where she helps families identify appropriate care for their children based on their need.

She stresses that quality care is necessary for growing children, but state requirements remain at a “bare minimum” and California ranks one of the lowest in the country for childcare licensing standards.

McDougal cites low pay and minimal public and state investment as some of the main reasons California falls behind other states for adequate and affordable quality care.
