Carlsbad Lancers 49, Del Norte Nighthawks 0

The Carlsbad Lancers faced the Del Norte Nighthawks in Week 1 for the second straight year after having to forfeit a win, the Lancers steamrolled the Nighthawks 49-0 in a revenge game for the ages doing most of the damage in the first half.

After kicking off to the Nighthawks the Lancers gave up little ground as Del Norte would miss a 33 yard and field goal and the Lancers would take over. After two runs quarterback Troy Bloomquist dropped back throw a rainbow pass to Joe Fontenot for a 80 yard touchdown to put Carlsbad up 7-0 early in the first. The Nighthawks would go three and out deep in their own territory and have a bad punt would give the Lancers great field position.

Bloomquist would add another touchdown few plays later as he found his tight end Cameron Thomas on a bootleg for a 5 yard touchdown pass as the Lancers go up 14-0 halfway through the first quarter. Carlsbad’s defense was stingy on the night forcing a fumble on the next Nighthawks possession and Bloomquist would capitalize finding Fontenot again for a score to make the score 21-0.

Jump to the second quarter and the Lancers would keep the air raid up as Bloomquist would find find Jacob Tuner who makes a sensational catch in traffic for Bloomquist’s 4th touchdown. The Lancers would score two more times before the end of the half with Bloomquist connecting with Fontenot again for his 5th, then his 6th touchdown to Raphael Cooper to end the half.

At (1-0) the Lancers will travel down south to take on the saints of St. Augustine who also are (1-0). Meanwhile Del Norte will play host to the (0-1) Fallbrook Warriors.

PREVIEW: The red jackets are back for another exciting and thrilling football season as we kick off our week one action in Carlsbad, California. The Lancers will host a non conference game verse the Del Norte Nighthawks.

Del Norte head coach Patrick Coleman will look to kick off the season strong as his team finished  (4-7) last year and losing his last four games of the season. With a bunch of key starters graduating last year, players like Jelani "the jet" McCall who plays both sides of the ball will now need lead his team to victory.

The Carlsbad Lancers lead by head coach Thadd MacNeal did not fair much better last season as the Lancers would finish (4-8). Carlsbad will be lead by senior Cameron Thomas who fly’s under the radar as a San Diego standout. His size and versatility will lead the Lancers both on offense and defense.

What makes this game even more intriguing is the fact that the Lancers steamrolled the Nighthawks last season in the first game 28-0. But due to the fact Carlsbad had some ineligible players contribute the Lancers were forced to forfeit the win. Will the Nighthawks make it two in a row or will the Lancers redeem a bitter loss?
