LA MESA (KUSI) – Residents in La Mesa are saying a business owner is terrorizing the community, attacking them and committing lewd acts in front of his shop.
La Mesa police said this weekend they were looking into a disturbing video posted to Twitter that appears to show a local businessman groping a woman outside his store.
Users in the “La Mesa Happenings” Facebook page identified the man in the videos as the owner of Peter’s Gentlemen’s Apparel / Gentlemen’s Resale Clothiers on La Mesa Boulevard. The video shared over the weekend appears to show him groping a woman outside the store in broad daylight.
He’s accused of molesting woman in public, spitting on people as they walk by and now, physically assaulting several television news crews in La Mesa. His name is Peter Carzis and right now, he’s the most hated man in La Mesa.
“I walked by and he spit on me then he said FU, then he spit on me again,” says Nathan Pastore.
Oddly enough, the locals say this kind of behavior has been going on for at least 5-years. He’s a shop owner. Sells used men’s clothing. He’s been there for years.
“I went in there about 5 years ago with my daughter. He instantly started insulting me and cussing, using the F word,” says La Mesa City City Council member Kristine Alessio.
The La Mesa Police Department tweeted Sunday that they were aware of the circulating video and were investigating.
The situation escalated Monday when Carzis had a physical altercation with media personnel who attempted to ask him about the incident.
KUSI’S Dan Plante was one of those reporters.
The PIO from the La Mesa Police Department said Monday that they are still looking for the suspect Peter Carzis:
Regarding the incident with the media, Officers took a crime report for misdemeanor battery and felony vandalism. Mr. Carzis was no longer on scene when officers went to talk to him and his whereabouts are currently unknown, so he has not been arrested. We are currently attempting to locate him so we can continue the investigation.
Regarding the video from Twitter, The La Mesa Police Department has received two crime reports- one battery and one lewd act in public- regarding separate incidents that occurred on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Peter’s Men’s Apparel. The Investigations Division has the reports and Detectives are conducting follow up on both cases.
