La Mesa house fire puts entire neighborhood at risk
LA MESA (CNS) – An intense, stubborn fire tore through a La Mesa house Friday, creating a large column of thick black smoke and sending several people to a hospital.
The blaze in the 4700 block of 70th Street erupted for unknown reasons shortly before 5:30 p.m., according to Heartland Fire & Rescue.
Within several minutes, flames were leaping out of the home's windows and engulfing a smaller structure behind the residence.
An hour later, smoke was still pouring out of the smoldering structures and off charred debris in the surrounding yard as firefighters continued to spray water on the fire from the ground and atop tall extension ladders.
It was not immediately clear what led to the injuries scene or how seriously the victims were hurt.
