Labor strikers slow freeway traffic on I-15

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — Around a dozen labor union workers protesting AT&T slowed down traffic on northbound Interstate 15 Tuesday as they picketed with signs on the San Diego Mission Road overpass.

Members of CWA Local 9509, part of the Communications Workers Association of District 9, went on strike last Thursday against AT&T West for better wages, pensions and healthcare.

Strikers stood on San Diego Mission Road, looking down at traffic on the NB I-15 Tuesday, with signs reading “Unfair labor practices at AT&T” and “Stand up 2 greed,” backing up traffic on the freeway.

According to a letter from the local groups’ website Communications Workers Association posted on their website AT&T Labor Relations sent proposals that the bargaining committee believed were unacceptable.

The most recent package proposal from At&T came Friday. The committee believed the proposal “included minimal improvements in wages and the elimination of wait days for all appendices.”

The CWA bargaining team opened negotiation with AT&T concerning a new contract in February.
