Lake Murray Little League vandalized and equipment stolen returned

UPDATE:  Lake Murray Little League President, Denise Carl, has notified KUSI that their stolen Gator was returned.

Carl shared the following statement:

Early this morning, the Lake Murray Little League was informed that our stolen Gator had been returned and located nearby in San Diego. The Gator had a note attached stating that it was indeed ours. Arrangements are being made to transport the Gator back to Sunset Field.

We are grateful that whoever was responsible for the theft had a change of heart and decided to do the right thing. On behalf of the entire Lake Murray Little League Board of Directors, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the La Mesa Police Officers’ Association for their assistance in organizing the incredible effort to raise funds to replace the Gator. The fundraiser raised over $8,000.00 and was intended to be used to purchase a new utility cart for the League.

More importantly, I would also like to thank each and every one of the donors that gave so generously to this cause- I know that times are incredibly tough right now, and I couldn’t be more proud to be part of a community of citizens and businesses that are willing to step up and help out La Mesa’s youth in such a tremendous way.

I know that the donors gave to this cause with the intention that the funds raised would go towards the purchase of a new Gator. Any donor that wishes to have their donation returned can contact me (email is below) and a full refund will be made to you. Please be assured that all donated funds retained by the League will be used with the spirit of the original fundraiser in mind- to provide the best possible Little League experience for all of our players, especially those that may not otherwise be able to afford to play or purchase equipment.

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Little leaguers are facing a tough year ahead of them. First, they have been benched since the beginning of 2020 and one league has had some of their equipment was stolen.

Recently, Lake Murray Little League noticed there was graffiti painted all over their snack bar and bleachers then they had to cut off a new lock that someone else put on our storage shed.

Once they finally got into it and they learned that their Gator utility vehicle, worth $5000-$6000 was stolen along with other items.

The Gator is used to maintain baseball fields and say they are not sure how they will manage without it this season.

KUSI’s Maddison Sinclair talked to Lake Murray Little League officials who are asking for the community’s help in recovering their stolen property.
