Lanes close after crane crashes into freeway overpass

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Freeway lanes in Kearney Mesa were closed after a crane struck the freeway.

The crane struck the Clairemont Mesa Boulevard overpass as it was traveling along southbound state Route 163 around 7:15 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol and Caltrans. The impact exposed rebar, broke off pieces of concrete and sent debris into the roadway, the CHP said. Debris from the overpass allegedly caused a two-vehicle crash.

According to the CHP, a Caltrans bridge inspector was brought down from Orange County. The far right southbound lane of state Route 163 was closed
following the crash, along with one westbound lane of Clairemont Mesa Boulevard over the highway. No injuries were reported.
