Lawsuit filed against La Costa Resort over the 2014 Poinsettia Fire
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – On October 10, 2014, the Singleton Law Firm filed a lawsuiton behalf of multiple plaintiffs against Omni La Costa Resort & Spa, LLC (“La Costa Resort”)for negligently starting the 2014 Poinsettia Fire.
The lawsuit, which is not a class action, allegesthat La Costa Resort is responsible for starting the fire due to negligent maintenance andoperation of its property and equipment, and for its failure to safeguard against the fire spreadinginto neighboring residential communities once it started.
The Poinsettia Fire allegedly started near the seventh hole of the La Costa golf course. Omniassumed ownership of La Costa in 2013. The Plaintiffs in this suit include homeowners andrenters who lost everything they owned, individuals who suffered injuries, and businesses thatwere damaged or destroyed.Attorneys Gerald Singleton, Erika Vasquez, Brody McBride and Demetrios Sparacino filed thecase.
The lead attorney, Mr. Singleton, is also a principal attorney in litigation against San DiegoGas & Electric (SDG&E), the utility company responsible for starting three fires that destroyedover 300,000 acres in San Diego County in 2007.
Mr. Singleton’s group represented more than1,600 individuals in their lawsuits against SDG&E.
