La Costa Canyon 21, Hoover 9

The La Costa Canyon Mavericks traveled to Hoover High to take on the Cardinals. It was the first ever meeting between the two schools.

The majority of the game was played on the ground. LCC started the scoring with a 3 yard TD run by Cade Jackson. He would end up rushing for 138 yards.

Hoover’s defense made it tough for LCC. In the second quarter after a Luis Aparicio punt put the Mavericks inside their own one Lewis Butler tackled Cade Jackson in the endzone for a safety.

The Cardinals’ posestion following the punt led to another Hoover score. It was a 29 yard TD pass from Zyair Velazquez to Dominique Whitfield that gave the Cardinals the 9-7 lead heading into halftime.

LCC owned the second half. Quarterback Duke Mackle score early in the fourth quarter on a 7 yard run. He scored again later in the quarter on a 12 yard run.

Both teams looked a little sloppy. LCC fumbled 3 times, Hoover fumbled once also threw an interception.

The final score was LCC 21, Hoover 9. Both teams now have a 2-1 record. LCC will host Rancho Bernardo next week while Hoover will have a bye week before traveling to Granite Hills.
