Learning more about the threat of the spreading Zika Virus

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — Dozens of U.S. troops have contracted the Zika Virus while serving overseas.

At least 33 of the troops have tested positive for the virus.

Among those who contracted it, a pregnant woman.

The Pentagon said it’s working to monitor the threat to military members and civilians.

In the meantime, President Obama is urging Congress to address this threat, saying this is not the time for politics.

The virus is becoming more and more common in the United States.

A recent travel advisory is cautioning pregnant women not to travel to an area near Miami, Florida where 15 cases have been confirmed.

With the Zika Virus becoming a growing concern, U.S. health officials are trying to find out everything they need to know about the increasing risk.

Doctor Mona Hacker, a Board Certified Family Medicine Physician, sat down with KUSI with more information.
