Legal ramifications of gig worker bill AB 5

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – More than 70,000 independent truckers are impacted today by a temporary block of AB 5 by a San Diego federal judge.

The U.S. district judge has granted a temporary restraining order sought by the California Trucking Association while he considers a permanent ruling. The judge says the ruling is likely to eventually succeed on the argument that AB 5 violates federal law.

The judge also says truckers are likely to suffer irreparable harm and that the ruling is in the public’s interest.
