Leslie Lopez Weather Discussion – Thursday, January 29, 2015
There is some rainfall on the way, so if you are trying to plan your weekend, here is the break down. Rain will mostly been seen in our mountain and deserts areas. The remainder of the county, which includes our coast and inland/valleys, are expected to see less.
The reason for the tropical air-mass is we have a low pressure system coming from the southwest of Baja California, which is wrapping rain around to the East portion of our county. It is also moving towards the Northeast, so over the course of the next 36 hours Arizona, New Mexico, then Utah and Colorado are due to receive some rain and snow. The Rockies are looking forward to some snow!
This afternoon, the mountains and deserts will get most of the rainfall. It will start out light and by the late evening hours, hopefully when most of us are tucked away and asleep, the more moderate downpours will arrive. This will be on and off through Saturday.
Slowly, some of that rain will migrate from the East to the West, affecting our inland/valleys, then our coast. The best chance for this happening will be late tonight into tomorrow morning, then becomes less likely into Saturday. The further to the Northwest you are, i.e. Carlsbad, Oceanside, Fallbrook, Vista, etc., the less rain you will receive.
Unfortunately, rainfall totals for the beaches and inland areas are not impressive – .10″-.25″ and if we are really lucky, maybe, .50″. The mountains have a better shot of getting greater totals – fingers crossed for 1.00″, but that is pushing it.
Since this is a tropical system, there will not be any snow for our local mountains with our highest peaks hoovering around 6,000 feet. Big Bear may get a dusting as snow levels will be above 7,000 feet.
What about SUPER BOWL SUNDAY? Well, things are shaping up to be beautiful! The atmosphere will dry out nicely and most coastal and inland/valley areas will see the thermometer reach the low 70’s. Enjoy great BBQ-ing weather. I’m rooting for the 7-layer dip! Go Team!
