Leslie Lopez Weather Discussion – Thursday, September 11, 2014
A short heat wave is on the way for San Diego. Warming begins today and will continue through Monday. There will likely be a heat advisory issued for Monday as temperatures are expected to get above 100 degrees in some favored Valley and East County spots. The coast will also warm up quite well, reaching the low 90’s Sunday and Monday.
By Tuesday, a slow cool down will begin, but it will still remain warm. In addition to that, added moisture from Hurricane Odile will raise our humidity levels and bring a chance of thunderstorms to the Mountains and Deserts.
Surf is also expected to pick up by Tuesday as a south swell moves in, so a likely Beach Hazards statement will be issued, meaning watch out for strong surf and rip currents.
Try to stay cool out there! More to come on Hurricane Odile, but so far looks like it will follow a similar path to Hurricane Norbert, along the Baja Peninsula. Right now it is tropical storm gaining strength. Tomorrow I expect it will become a major Hurricane.
This great photo was taken by viewer Robert Jacobs in Escondido! Amazing colors!
