Leslie Lopez Weather Discussion – Tuesday, September 16, 2014
Another dangerously hot day in San Diego. In addition to another day of hot weather, we are also experiencing more humidity today than yesterday. The moisture will continue to increase tomorrow, so although we’ll be a few degrees cooler, the humidity will make us feel a few degrees warmer, so we’ll call it somewhat of a wash.
Hurricane Odile, now Tropical Storm Odile, will also increase our surf. North County will see bigger waves, 4-6 footers, while Orange County will see even bigger surf – 5 to 7 footers. A Beach Hazards Statement has been issued, so take caution when entering the surf as rip currents along with a longshore current are making it difficult and dangerous for swimmers.
For our local mountains Odile is likely to cause heavy downpours and thunderstorms tomorrow into Thursday. This could prompt a Flash Flood Watch, but again it is mainly for the mountains.
Our Inland/Valley areas have a chance of seeing isolated Thunderstorms as well, but a much less chance compared to the mountains. The coast remains clear of thunderstorm threats at this time.
Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and Texas will receive heavy downpours and thunderstorms from Odile along with a significant threat of flash flooding. The area remains under watch right now.
By Thursday a low pressure system will swing down and cool us off a bit with further cooling Friday and on into the weekend.
