Leslie Lopez’s Weather Discussion – Monday, December 1, 2014
Moderate to heavy rain is on the way for Tuesday. It will start out as light rain for the morning commute, becoming heavier as we get closer to the afternoon and evening.
By Wednesday and Thursday the rain will be lighter and more scattered and finally by Friday we are looking up towards clearer skies.
Rainfall totals will be around 1.00″ – 1.50″ for the coast and inland/valleys areas, and for the foothills and mountains, totals will be around 3″ – 4″. For areas with burn scars, flash flooding is a concern as we saw over the weekend in Malibu.
The reason we are getting these nice rainfall totals from this system is we’re tapping into some subtropical moisture. This air mass from the south is warmer, therefore not cold enough to see snowfall for our local mountains. The snow levels will be around 8,000 feet and above. That is good news for the Sierras, making Tahoe and Mammoth happy.
Get ready for a few days of wet weather. By Saturday, there is another chance for some light showers!
